Feb. 9- Feb. 20th, 2015

Learning Targets/Topics Word Study/Spelling: ~ I can spell and use high frequency words. *See your child’s word cards in their homework folder to know their skill for this cycle. These word cards are for at home practice (sorts, flashcards, writing a story, etc) and do not need to be returned to school. Reading: ~ I can identify the point of view of a story. ~ I can determine whether I agree/disagree with a character’s point of view and give an explanation.   Writing: ~ I can write an opinion piece. Math:   ~ I can use patterns to multiply with 4,6,7,8, as factors. ~ I can multiply with 3 factors. ~ I can divide whole numbers using several strategies, including using the related multiplication sentence. ~ I can find the area of figures by counting the squares and using multiplication sentences and arrays. Please practice multiplication flashcards at home. Students need to know their multiplication facts automatically. We will begin timed tests here to help students know which facts they know and need to know.  They will not be counted toward a grade.

Blizzard Bag Info Because of our snow day Monday, students are now required to do the second blizzard bag, number 7 (day 7 of missed school).  The first blizzard bag, day 6, was due Jan. 27th.  Please have your child work on the blizzard bag each night and send it in with your child as soon as possible. The state requires a certain percentage of students to complete these across the district in order for this to count as a school day. The second bag (day 7) is due February 10th.  The third blizzard bag (day 8) is due Friday, February 13th! Valentine’s Party The Valentine’s Party will be held Friday, February 13th from 2:15-3:15.  Parents welcome!  Please send your child’s Valentine box and Valentines to school on Friday.  Let me know if you need another class list for writing valentines.
