Learning Targets/Topics Word Study/Spelling: We are working now on a whole group word study lesson in order to learn the routines.  This week or next, your child should bring home more information about the word study learning block and how they can practice their individual words at home. Reading: ~ I can write a response to my reading.   ~ I have strategies to help me understand the author’s message when I’ve read something that doesn’t make sense. ~ I can write a letter to someone about a book I’m reading. ~ I can tell about a character’s feelings and traits and provide evidence from the text to support your thinking. Writing: ~ I can write a personal narrative bit by bit. ~ I can write a beginning in which I introduce the setting, characters, and hook the reader. ~ I can use correct punctuation and capitalization in my writing. Math:    ~ I can round numbers to the nearest 10 ~ I can round numbers to the nearest 100 ~ I can determine when to subtract in a word problem. ~ I can add and subtract using mental math. ~ I can estimate sums and differences.

The easiest way to order is online at www.scholastic.com/bookclubs.  Use the class code JZ3GZ to ensure our classroom earns reward points for free books.  If you would rather send in the paper order form, please be sure to send in a CHECK ONLY made out to scholastic for the exact amount of your order.   Book orders are due this Friday on 10-14-16.   Halloween Party Students will be permitted to bring a costume to wear for the room party.  Please do not send masks, weapons, or scary costumes.  We also will not have time for face makeup, as the students will be putting their costume on in the afternoon right before the party.

I have began meeting with guided reading groups.  Have your child read at home and look on our blog for ideas of how they can write about their reading or discuss their thinking with someone at home. Writing: ~ I can write a personal narrative bit by bit. ~ I can write a beginning in which I introduce the setting, characters, and hook the reader. Math:    ~ I can tell the two tens or hundreds a number is between.     (  72 is between 70 and 80; 147 is between 100 and 200) ~ I can find the number halfway between two numbers. ~ I can round numbers to the nearest 10 ~ I can round numbers to the nearest 100

Ohio Caverns If you have not turned in your permission slip for the Ohio Caverns Field Trip this Friday, please do so ASAP.  Please be sure all students wear tennis shoes, their orange tie dye shirt, and pack a disposable lunch.  Students are permitted to bring up to ten dollars for the gift shop.  Just a dollar or two will buy them a souvenir.   Spirit Week This week is Spirit Week for our Homecoming Game and to continue to raise money for Blake Barr.  We are collecting donations for his family each day. Monday: Hat Day Tuesday: Inside Out and backwards Day Wednesday: Green Day (The color of Team Blake) Thursday: Super Hero Day (Your favorite super hero) Friday: Graham Day
