Tie Dye Letter that Came Home

September 12, 2016

Dear Families,

This year our 3rd grade class will be tie dying t-shirts.  This is a fun project that the students enjoy and can do on their own.  Each class will have thier own class color.  Your child needs to bring in a white, 100% cotton t-shirt.  It is important that it is 100% cotton.  The dye tends to not stick to other fabrics.  They also need to be freshly laundered, which helps the dye stick and ensures the t-shirt has not shrunk.  We’ve had t-shirts not fit after they’ve been washed.  Students will get to create their own rubber band design and apply the tie dye to their own shirt, then the teachers will take the shirts home over the weekend to wash and set the color.  They have to set for awhile, then be rinsed, washed, and dried.  The teachers will wash and dry them when we have finished tie-dying so that our shirts are ready for the kids to wear on our field trip in October.  We plan to have the students wear their t-shirts to represent their 3rd grade class throughout the year for special events.   Please do all you can to keep the shirt from getting lost at home.  We would suggest only wearing the shirt on the designated days so that it has less of a chance to get lost. If your child has a detergent allergy, please inform us so that we can wash it with the correct detergent.  Thank you for your support with this project!Tie-dye

Please turn in a white T-shirt for our project by September 20th.
